Since our great-grandfather founded the company in 1877, we have kept small quantities of the most memorable vintages in our private cellars.\u00a0\u00a0 We have decided to release some of these collector\u2019s items, so that wine lovers all over the world can enjoy the exciting taste and aromas of our history.<\/p>\n
These fine old wines were hand crafted many years ago in the most traditional way, as we still strive to do with all of our wines. They have lain undisturbed in our deepest cellars, maturing slowly, nurtured by the passage of time.<\/p>\n
Naturally all of these wines\u00a0are \u201cGran Reservas\u201d, a unique distinction only granted to the highest quality of wine. The story starts when a rare combination of weather and grape growth produces an exceptional crop in terms of colour, quality and balance. Once harvested, the wines spend some eight years in barrels, during which time they are racked by hand some seventeen times.<\/p>\n
An expert committee comprising of three members of the family regularly taste the evolving wine, and closely follow its progress.\u00a0 It is only just before bottling in the eighth year when they decide if the wine is worthy of the title \u201cGran Reserva\u201d. If so, the wine will remain undisturbed in bottles in the cellars for a further eight years. This has happened only on twenty-two\u00a0occasions since 1890.<\/p>\n
We have made both red and white \u201cGran Reservas\u201d, each with its own distinctive qualities. The reds have all the majesty, richness and bouquet of their noble tradition. The whites, with their incredible longevity and the complexity and freshness so suited to the cuisine of today.<\/p>\n
To celebrate a birthday or anniversary\u00a0with a \u201cGran Reserva\u201d provides the occasion with a true mark of distinction. These wines will leave you with flavours and memories to cherish forever.<\/p>\n

How to enjoy our historic wines<\/span><\/p>\n Please read carefully to ensure your maximum\u00a0 pleasure. Because of their age and the natural wine making process, some bottles will have sediment. This will not affect the complex aromas, the taste or your enjoyment of the wine.<\/p>\n These bottles have been lying in our cellars in conditions of high humidity and constant temperatures; the humidity is naturally regulated by the mould which secretes or absorbs humidity depending on the levels.\u00a0 These bottles naturally attract mould and dust.\u00a0 Because the wine has been hand bottled and aged over many years, the height of wine in the neck will always be irregular, even when the wine is from the same barrel. Filled, waxed and labelled by hand, the bottle keeps most of the dust that settles over the years. We regard this weathered exterior look as a sign of the age and care that has gone into crafting the wine. We certainly don\u2019t try to hide it, and can assure you that it will not affect either the quality or your pleasure in drinking this Gran Reserva.<\/p>\n Once received, any bottle of wine (especially a Gran Reserva) should be left to settle for at least a week, preferably in a quiet, dark and cool place with constant temperature and humidity (humidity of 70-80% and temperature between 18\u00ba and 20\u00ba C).<\/p>\n If you decant the wine, let it settle for an hour before serving. Pour carefully, ensuring minimum movement of the decanter. If you do not decant, it should be laid vertically for an hour so that the sediment rests at the bottom.
